15 January 1822. President of Haiti Jean-Pierre Boyer responds to a letter dated 20 August 1821 from the directorate of the Greek Committee of Paris Adamantios Korais, Konstantinos Polychroniades, Athanasios Bogoridis and Christoforos Klonaris. In that letter, the Committee asked for assistance for the support of the Greek Revolution. President Boyer expresses the enthusiasm of the Haitian people for the outbreak of the Revolution, but declares his inability to help the Struggle financially, wishing at the same time victories similar to those in the battles of Marathon and Salamis. This letter, which was published in the fourth volume of Ioannis Philemon’s book “Historical Essay on the Greek Revolution” (1861), is the first recognition of the Revolution by a leader of an independent State.
